LSA’s and ASTM F2506-13 – An email string from CASA

UNCLASSIFIED

Hi Alan,

After discussions with CASA Standards Section we have agreed that provided the manufacturer signs a declaration that the propeller when it was fitted to the particular aircraft met or meets a known and accepted standard CASA will accept this. As an example if an aircraft was fitted with an inflight adjustable two years ago and it meets F 2506-13 and the aircraft manufacturer is willing to sign a declaration to same then it will be acceptable.

Hi Alan,

Working on this one as we speak, trying to work out the best way forward. Of course if the propeller meets the standard and the manufacturer is willing to sign for it then there is no reason that they should be ELSA. We just have to work in what form that we will accept the manufacturers declaration for same.

I will get back to you on this one.

Mick Poole

Mick,

Would it be acceptable to CASA if LSA manufacturers issued a Service Bulletin or like document which basically stated that LSA they had previously manufactured with “In Flight Adjustable Propellers” conformed with the newly available ASTM where the original Statement of Compliance was silent on the Propeller?

Assuming of course that such statement was technically correct.

If such an outcome was achieved would this satisfy CASA and remove the requirement for affected aircraft to be Experimental?

Ultra Shine Aviation gains its CASR Part 145 Approval Certificate

It is with great pleasure that I can report today that my client Ultra Shine Aviation (USA) has been granted its new CASA Approval Certificate under CASR Part 145.

USA are a Special Maintenance Task only AMO who provide cleaning, and polishing services to its customers at Perth Airport in Western Australia.

Well done to Mike and his team.

PTA awarded a three year contract – Safety Mgr. for Ultra Shine Aviation

A chance meeting at Jandakot Airport just before Christmas 2012 resulted in PTA assisting Ultra Shine Aviation transition towards gaining its CASR 145 Approval Certificate.

Part of this process involved Alan Jupp being contracted to become their CASA approved Safety Manager.

Additionally Alan has been helping write various manuals, designing and revising others and all the associated forms.

Importantly we are using SMS-Pro Lite as the companies Safety Management System data base.

Nashville, Tennersee, USA – SAAB 340B revisited

My first visit to Nashville. I must say I really enjoyed the place and the folk there.

Food – Serves way too large.

This SAAB 340B is destined for Darwin in NT.

Presents very well after a complete repaint. I will catch up with it again in Darwin
